Hand-Painted Art Plates by Roy Hamilton, Set of Seven
Each hand-painted plate is work of art, displayed in our showroom hung in a row. We have seven total - pictured are six unique designs. The seventh plate is a repeat.
My Hamilton confirmed to us that these plates were created prior to 1977 when he moved to Los Angeles. They are actually slip trailed which gives them the raised surface. The Hadley design (bottom right) is named after Albert Hadley who bought the first piece Mr. Hamilton ever did in that pattern for his own apartment, in 1975.
For four decades, designers and decorators have sought out Roy Hamilton’s studios in search of one-of-a-kind yet timeless ceramics. In the mid-1960s, having moved to New York City from London to run the American offices of Liberty of London, he signed up for pottery classes at the midtown YMCA. Soon he had set up a weekend potting studio in the garage of his house in East Hampton. Out there Hamilton would throw a Classic shape on the wheel, then really focus on the decorative treatment.
